I don't have any German knowledge. Can I apply for PEESE anyway?

• Yes, you can. To be admitted, you need only to have English knowledge which fulfills our admission requirements. A German language course (you have to pay separately for that) will be offered in the first semester. By the beginning of the second semester you must prove that you have sufficient knowledge of the German language. How many students are studying at the Berlin University of Technology?

• With a student body of around 30,000 and more than 6,000 international students from 130 different countries, the Technical University of Berlin is the largest technical university in Germany and has the highest rate of foreign students among all German universities.

How many exchange programmes are supported by the Technical University of Berlin?

• TU Berlin actively supports a number of student exchange programmes. Each year, more than 550 university students take part in any of 230 exchange programmes with partner universities in Europe and other areas of the globe. Financial support for the programmes comes from a number of organisations, such as the German Acsdemic Exchange Service (<abbr>DAAD</abbr>), the EUCommission (Sokrates/Erasmus), the Fulbright Commission, the German-French university programme or TU Berlin's direct exchange programmes.

Where can I get help or supports?

• Your supervisor as well as the International Office are the partners for international students who come to study at the TU Berlin. Whether it's a matter of a residency permit, a place to rent or making contacts between German and international students your supervisor and the International Office can help.

How is the life in Berlin?

• Berlin is one of the largest and most historical among German cities with a population of over 3 Million people from over 180 countries. Being the capital and a major center for government activities, it attracts guests from all over the world. The city represents europe's cultural heritage in the form of theaters, musems and art galleries. There are many Universities in Berlin with about 130,000 young students. More than 50,000 people work as scientists, as such Berlin is the highest research oriented cities of Europe. TU-Berlin is centrally situated near the main train station Zoo. About 30,000 Students are enrolled here. 20% of these are foreigners. This is the biggest Technical University of Germany with a number of libraries, laboratories and modern computer facilities. How can I apply for visa?

• Visa precedures depend on the country you come from and are quite diverse so we can not give particular hints for visa-application. Please contact your local embassy or your coordinator. Applicants from China: the German embassy in Peking has set up a Academic Checking Institution or "Akademische Prüfstelle (APS)". Currently all students have to undergo the checking procedure there.

Are there extra tuition fees for the PEESE programme?

• No, students of the PEESE programme only have to pay the standard tuition fee of the TU-Berlin like other students per semester. The tuition fee includes the public transportation ticket.

Are there any accommodations?

• If you wish, we try to arrange accomodation at a reasonable rent (see also living costs) for you as part of our student support service.Right now, we are working on a cooperation with "Studentenwerk" and "Studentendorf Schlachtensee", a student union offering single appartments and flat-sharing communities. Schlachtensee is a beautiful setting, quite green (Berlin is called the "greenest metropole of Europe"). Partner programmes plan to accomodate their students there, so you will live close to other international students. Schlachtensee gives you the possibility to find fast and unbureaucratic a flat. You can decide to stay there or you can leave unproblematic when you found another appartement. Please contact your supervisor for detailed informations.

How much are the living costs?
